BREEDERS’ COOPERATIVE OF CASTUERA If there is something that identifies La Serena area (an ideal land for shepherding Merino sheep), it is Torta de La Serena, made by hand using traditional methods with natural ingredients: raw Merino sheep milk, “yerbacuajo” (vegetable rennet) and salt.
The Breeders’ Cooperative of Castuera was created in 1981 and currently has more than one hundred members dedicated to breeding Merino sheep, with 71,000 sheep registered and production of 550,000 litres of milk.
Our wide range of cheeses is guaranteed and controlled by the Guarantee of Origin “Queso de la Serena” whose fire branded mark guarantees its origin and quality.
This cheese has been classified by gourmets as one of the best in the world.
